Eng. Ghanim Ali S. M. Al Kuwari, born in 1971, Currently serving as the Deputy Director General at the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), he holds a pivotal role in orchestrating the technical services for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™.
Beginning his journey as an Air Force officer post his graduation in electrical engineering from New Mexico State University, USA, Al Kuwari ascended to the rank of captain by 2000. His military career took a turn when he was seconded to the Organizing Committee of the Asian Games in Doha 2006, where he helmed the maintenance and operation department, overseeing sports facilities with meticulous precision.
Post the successful execution of his duties during the Asian Games, Al-Kuwari seamlessly transitioned into the role of Head of Maintenance and Operation at the Qatar Olympic Committee. His expertise caught the attention of the AFC Asian Cup Organizing Committee in 2011, where he played a key role in managing sports facilities and coordinating technical requirements with the Asian Football Confederation.
Joining the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, Eng. Ghanim Al Kuwari currently serves as the Deputy Director General for Technical Services. His portfolio includes managing facility management (FM), overlay, stadium security, accessibility, cleaning and waste management. Moreover, he oversees engineering works for city beautification, contributing significantly to the success of the monumental 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Notably, Al-Kuwari is also a board member of the Local Organizing Committee for the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023. His influence extends beyond Qatar’s borders as he served as the Chairman of the Gulf Engineers Committee of the Standing Committee of Secretaries in the Gulf Football Associations. In this role, he oversaw the technical evaluation of sports facilities for the Gulf host of the Arabian Gulf Cup.
Beyond sports management, Al-Kuwari has contributed to Qatar’s strategic reserves of raw materials, having served as a member of the Board of Directors of Qatar Primary Materials Company in 2019. His involvement in various committees addressing workforce issues and enhancing facilities for women’s sports underscores his commitment to fostering inclusivity and efficiency in the sports domain.
In a groundbreaking initiative, Al-Kuwari played a crucial role in the project utilizing treated water for agriculture, irrigation, and maintaining greenery around the stadiums of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, showcasing his commitment to sustainability.
Apart from his professional endeavors, Al-Kuwari’s love for football is not merely professional; he actively participated in the sport, earning a place in the training camp for the Qatar national football team in 1988. Beyond his professional pursuits, his personal interests include reading, fishing, and swimming, reflecting a well-rounded personality.
